Albums
Toto's discography consists of 13 studio albums and four live albums. There are also a few compilations. In addition to the release of original music, Toto has also done work with other artists and on soundtracks for films. The group has won multiple Grammy Awards.
Before the formation of Toto the band, members performed session work for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate, and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session drummer Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs 1975 album Silk Degrees. The collaboration led to the formation of Toto in the year 1976.
Toto's third album, Turn Back, marked an abrupt departure from the progressive sound of their earlier efforts and was criticized for the lack of hit singles. In 1985 the group's singer Fergie Frederiksen resigned from the group, and the band held auditions for the new frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the band recorded the album Fahrenheit in 1986.
In 1998, Toto celebrated its 20th anniversary by re-discovering old tapes and demos to release a special record called Toto XX. The album was well received by fans and the band went on a tour with former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.
Shem Von Schröck replaced Leland Sklar as the drummer during the tour for the 40 Trips Around the Sun album. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live album titled Falling in Between, which included recordings from the tour as well as an interview with the group.
