About Toto
The group Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also acclaimed studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs at the time) as well as bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The group's name was derived from the Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every style of music.
Toto's third release, Turn Back, was not a success in 1981. However they made amends with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two songs that were hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour make them a household name throughout the world.
After a brief break, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is an departure from the ballads of previous albums, and features some heavy rock. This album was their first to go platinum in North America.
In the course of recording the fifth album the group loses their manager and is faced with financial problems. They decide to change their name and create a new album with an entirely new producer. The lead singer Fergie Frederiksen departs and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman and provides the band with a much-needed boost.
In 1999, the band released Mindfields and embarks on an extensive tour around the world. After a few months in Europe they head to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and continues to record their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band's cover of their hit Africa during a recent tour. Toto's touring group is comprised by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

Toto returned for a benefit concert in 2010 to raise money for the ALS Foundation. This was the first time all of the original Toto members had been on stage together in over 31 years. In addition to the original members, keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.

The album marked a return to form for the group, and the tour accompanied by sold-out shows in North America and Europe. The reunion of Toto gained momentum with the return of bassist Shem Von Schroeck and guitarist Steve Lukather.
